Determining whether a site or is appropriate for submission to Web-ref.org

1. Web-ref.org has a strict policy against the inclusion of sites with illegal content. Examples of illegal material include child pornography; libel; material which infringes any intellectual property rights; material that specifically advocates, solicits or abets illegal activity (such as fraud or violence).
  • Do not submit sites which are currently "under construction". Wait until a site is complete before submitting it. Sites that are incomplete, contain "under construction" notices, or contain broken graphics or links will be rejected.
  • Do not submit mirror sites. Mirror sites are those which contain identical content, but have different URLs.
  • Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites listed in our directory. Sites which have overlapping or repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.
  • Do not disguise your submission and submit the same URL more than once.
  • Do not submit any site with an address that redirects to another address.
  • Do not submit affiliate coded links.
  • Sites which primarily contain links selling affiliate products will be rejected.
  • Under most situations we will not accept "inside page links" of your website.
2. Identify the single best sub-category for your site or article. This is the single biggest issue that we see with submissions to our directory. We currently have hundreds of categories/sub-categories listed in our directory and add more as needed or when appropriate. You should submit your site or article to the single most relevant sub-category. Submissions which have been submitted to inappropriate or unrelated categories may be rejected or removed. Please do not be offended if the site reviewer determines that a submission should be placed in a different sub-category than the one requested at the time of submission.

Once you have determined the best sub-category for your site or submission, click on: Follow the instructions on the submission form carefully. The Description of sites should describe the content of the site concisely and accurately. The description should not be a sales pitch or promotional in nature. Submitting a sales pitch or promotional description instead of an objective, well written description may significantly delay your site or article from being listed or prevent it from being listed at all. Auto-submission software is a violation of this procedure and attempts have been put into place to prevent use of those types of programs. Submissions which have been submitted using these programs will be deleted.

3. A Web-ref.org editor will review your submission to determine whether to include it in the directory. Depending on factors such as the volume of submissions and articles to the directory as well as editor availabilty - it may take several weeks or more before your submission is reviewed. Please only submit a link or article to the directory once. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites. Again, disguising your submission and submitting the same link more than once is not permitted.

4. To help us spread the word and ensure that submission stays free, we ask all accepted sites to include a reciprocal link to our website. To prevent low quality or spammy sites from linking to us, details of how to include our link will only be emailed to accepted websites.

Recommended Websites

Recommended websites are sites which our editorial team believes deserve special mention. You can find recommended websites on our homepage and main category and Sub-category pages. The criteria used to determine whether a site is given recommended status include:
  • Exceptional content - sites which renew their pages often with content which our editorial team believes will be both very interesting and useful for our users.
  • A pagerank of 4 and to qualify for our homepage, 3 and above to qualify as a category recommended site and a pagerank of 2 and above to qualify as sub-category recommended sites - pagerank after all is a measure of a site's quality.
If you believe your site should be a "recommended site", please complete the following form.

Editorial Discretion

Web-ref.org editors reserve the right to refuse any submission for inclusion in our directory for any reason. This discretion extends, but is not limited, to what sites, articles and categories are included in the directory, where in our directory the sites are placed, whether and when to include one or more links to a site, content of an article, or the content and description of a link submission. Please understand that discretion which is exercised by our editors may not treat all submissions equally. You may not always agree with our choices, but we hope you will recognize that they will do their best to make fair, reasonable and objective decisions which are in the best interest of our directory and the users it serves.
